Jambo everyone!

Hope 2 Others bracelets went on sale for $2 each at local businesses and the Sun Prairie High School on Monday, May 20. The bracelets are blue and green in color and include the word Tanzania on the blue side and Hope2Others on the green side. All proceeds from the bracelet sales are being donated to build a Medical Clinic of Hope in Tanzania.

Hope 2 Others is excited to announce that groundbreaking on the clinic is set for later this summer, at the same time a mission team consisting of Karen and Rick Klemp, Lena Mayfield, Judy Mueller, Jane Krogstad and Nancy and Rick Comello, will be in the country.

“It is like the first step of a dream that I have had for many, many years, and I just can’t believe that it is happening,” Karen Klemp said.

The Clinic of Hope, as it will be named, will provide medical, birthing and nutrition information to the 20,000 people in the Massai village of Kisongo.

Hope 2 Others is partnering with a Madison architect for the project. The architect has done other construction projects in Tanzania before and is donating his time to the project.

Bracelets are still on sale at local businesses. Anyone interested in purchasing a bracelet and supporting the Clinic of Hope is welcome to stop by any of the following businesses:

• Cool Beans Coffee Cafe, 1748 Eagan Road, Madison;

• Bank of Sun Prairie, 228 E. Main St., Sun Prairie;

• Beans n’ Cream Coffeehouse, 345 Cannery Square, Sun Prairie;

• Hair Excellence, 2402 Montana Ave., Sun Prairie;

• Prairie Athletic Club, 1010 N. Bird St., Sun Prairie;

• Sentry, 1052 W. Main St., Sun Prairie; and

• The Star, 804 Liberty Blvd., Suite 209, Sun Prairie.

“We are just very grateful to all the businesses and individuals who have supported the work of Hope 2 Others. Without them and their heart and compassion for helping others, it would not be attainable,” Karen Klemp said.

Hope 2 Others would also like to thank the following people:

Mary Kay Von Allmen, for her help with the bracelet sale and for participating in Culture Week at Sun Prairie High School. Her help and heart for the people of Tanzania is much appreciated.

Sun Prairie High School Student Council Advisor Timothy Keal, Student Council member Alyssa Weisensel, and the rest of Student Council. Weisensel was a driving force behind the bracelet sale and Culture Week. She took care of ordering the bracelets and selling them to students during Culture Week. Bracelets were sold to the students for $1, and in the end, Weisensel helped raise $126.05 for the Clinic of Hope. Much thanks to Mr. Keal for overseeing and helping Student Council with the project. Your dedication and drive helped make the week a success.

Leah Granitz for her help with the Culture Week presentation on May 20. Leah returned from an almost four month stay with the New Life Band School in Tanzania at the end of April. While there, she helped teach English to Form 3 and Form 4 students in the school. Leah previously traveled to Tanzania for a two-week mission trip in 2007.

Just like it takes a village to raise a child, it will take a strong foundation of dedicated people to help make this Clinic of Hope a success. The floor plan that has been developed is duplicatable and we are hoping that one day more clinics will be able to built to serve the people of Tanzania. Hope 2 Others would like to extend its thanks to every person, business, organization and school group that has donated time, money or services to our cause. Our successes would not have been possible without the great support we have found in our community.

Hope 2 Others is continuing to expand its online presence by officially joining Twitter! A huge thank you to everyone who has Liked us on Facebook. Now anyone interested can Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/Hope2OthersWI.

In the upcoming weeks, Hope2Others will be coordinating with the Sun Prairie High School to take part in Culture Week the week of May 20-24.

Students will be able to learn about the country of Tanzania and some of the people who are working hard to improve the lives of those living in the Maasai village of Kisongo.

Hope 2 Others is in the process of building a Medical Clinic of Hope with New Life birthing and nutrition centers on the New Life Band School’s 25-acre campus. Hope 2 Others invites students to learn about the many aspects of life in Tanzania, including education, food, village life, languages, healthcare, currency, transportation and driving regulations, art, music and more.

Together we can make a difference….one brick at a time! Sun Prairie High School’s Student Council will be raising money to purchase bricks to build the Medical Clinic of Hope/New Life Birthing and Nutrition Center of Hope.

In addition, Student Council will be placing an order to sell green, blue and yellow Hope 2 Others bracelets (similar to the LiveStrong bracelets) to raise funds for the Medical Clinic of Hope. While the bracelets will be available for students at the high school to purchase, we are also in the process of approaching local businesses and seeing if they would be interested in selling the bracelets to the community.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Hope 2 Others is also in the process of applying to be part of an iPhone app, called Charity Miles.

This past year was the year of miracles as God provided in amazing ways for the work of Hope 2 Others in Tanzania and Guatemala – often through the hearts and hands of people like you! It was exciting to see the delivery of the donated City of Sun Prairie ambulance to Tanzania and the many other ways that God worked through H2O this year.

Tanzania – We completed a six week trip to Tanzania in May to receive the donated ambulance, ultrasound and medical supplies, and begin the work to set up a new clinic at the New Life Band School and a new mobile clinic in the ambulance.

While there, we saw patients in Arusha and in the village of Kisongo working with Tanzanian emergency medical physician Dr. Aluseta Kansary. The trip also included ministry with Pat Loomis and Pastor Russ Frase with Joshua Nations to assist their establishment of Bible Schools in Arusha, Dadoma, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.

This trip was significant as we developed and deepened ministry relationships while practically meeting needs from the simplicity of book shelf construction to the distribution and organization of medical and school supplies. We were excited as God gave us many new relationships and showed us the need for future medical clinics and schools.

2012 also marked the founding of Hope 2 Other’s first international office in Dar es Salaam on Nov. 15 under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Mitcachi and Elizaphy Deo. The first meeting included 24 Tanzanians in attendance, and an offering of 900,000 tsh ($562.50) was taken to launch the office. Praise God for the excitement and generosity of our Tanzanian friends!

Guatemala – A 10-day trip to Guatemala and Guatemala City once again confirmed the need for H20’s long-term work in that nation. We are always inspired to work alongside Nancy and Dave Comello as we visited and ministered at six different ministries, including an abused woman’s shelter and home, several organizations serving the needs of children and urban poor, a medical clinic and the House of Prayer in Guatemala City. We see the fruit of Hope 2 Others’ ongoing commitment to Guatemala, as well as the many practical and medical needs in the years to come.

As Hope 2 Others looks into the future in 2013, we have many goals we hope to accomplish. Those goals include:

• Identifying and funding staff and volunteers for both the warehouse and office work. This includes a plan to add Rick and Karen Klemp as partially funded by Hope 2 Others so they can transition their careers towards full-time supported ministry.

• Continued work in Guatemala at the abused women’s home and three other identified ministries. Work includes providing medical clinics as able, including promotion and training of “Healthy Births and Babies.”

• Further construction of homes in Rwanda through Someone’s Home and exploring the development of a vocational training tailoring school and microfinance to launch women in business.

• Continuing to meet the immediate needs of the homeless in the Sun Prairie area through the work of Shelter from the Storm. We are working to identify and strengthen relationships with partner faith-based and governmental organizations to solve the “hidden problem of homelessness” in our area.

Finally, we plan to implement the Helping Babies Breathe training for midwives, birth attendants and medical professionals. This program is part of an effort by the World Health Organization to decrease infant deaths/mortality by the year 2015. My colleagues and I would first provide this training to an established birthing center ministry in the Phillippines, then work together to bring it to Tanzania, Guatemala and Rwanda. This is an outstanding training that will impact the life and breath of many babies in medically underserved nations.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and support of the work of Hope 2 Others, Shelter from the Storm and Someone’s Home. We continue to be challenged by the enormity of the needs that we see in our travels, both locally and internationally. But even more, we are amazed by the provision and generosity through people like you as we have “ringside seats” as God works in mighty ways to care for His people. Won’t you consider joining us again in 2013 as we continue the work of the ministry?

We asked for port fees – and got a warehouse….

“This simply won’t do”! Jane was aghast when told that a container of medical and school supplies was sitting on a dock in Dar es Salaam because there wasn’t enough money to pay the port fees – and the potential bribes to go with it. Next thing Karen knew her phone was ringing. Jane is on the line and informs her that the Wisconsin State Journal would be calling shortly for a phone interview about the Tanzania container problem. Within days an article appeared both in print and on the web relating the status of the container, as well as a simple two sentence mention that local warehouse space was also an urgent need. The current space had been sold and with less than two weeks to go, Hope 2 Others had to vacate their current warehouse. Prayers were answered and God moved in a big way! As a result of the article over $1,200 came in and a gentleman called and offered warehouse space on Hwy 19 near the interstate. Rick told him that he was certain that 200 square feet would be just enough. The kind man laughed and said Hope 2 Others is being given 6,000 square feet of donated space – with just the cost of insurance! Karen and Rock later went to finalize the insurance and the agent donated the cost! We dream with God about how He may want to fill the warehouse this New Year….

Sun Prairie Star – December 29, 2011 (In the paper today – as we write this! Praise God!)
http://sunprairiestar.com/main.asp?SectionID=4&SubSectionID=129&ArticleID=9216

Abundantly more than you can ask or imagine….

Karen had forgotten about the conversation – that was until Care Net called. They wanted to know “could she use an ultrasound machine?” Immediately Karen remembered a conversation with Dr. Joel Carpenter in Dar es Salaam Tanzania regarding his need for an ultrasound. Karen was frustrated when she was unable to find his email so she asked God “If you want Dr. Joel to have this ultrasound, then please help me to find his email address!” That simple prayer was answered when less than 24 hours later Karen received an email from Dr. Joel! He wondered “if she had remembered him and had any leads on an ultrasound machine?” She immediately called him in Tanzania to confirm – and ask “what else?” Dr. Joel sent a wish list of 75 needed medical items – and Rick was able to supply 65 of them from the warehouse! There were no finances to ship a container, but that problem was solved when Dr. Joel connected Hope 2 Others with Samaritans Purse (Franklin Graham Association) who offered to donate the shipping from North Carolina to Tanzania! Dr. Joel’s supporters quickly funded the transport to North Carolina and on a snowy February morning Rick and Karen set off with a rental truck loaded with the much needed ultrasound machine and additional medical equipment! In God’s perfect timing, Karen and Rick were in Tanzania and helped unload the container – and ultrasound machine – ten months later at the YWAM base in Dar es Salaam! God provided the ultrasound – and also the “abundantly more than we could ask or imagine” by providing additional equipment and supplies and the opportunity for Karen and Rick to be a part of the beginning, middle, and end of a miracle.

Dennis and Elvira with Karen – Guatemala

Elvira gets her miracle….through the prayers and generosity of those she served….

It just didn’t seem right that Elvira should suffer. She and her husband Dennis had shared their home and hospitality with many Edgewood nursing students and other Hope 2 Others mission team members in previous visits to Chiquimulilla Guatemala. During a March visit this year, Karen and her friend and colleague Nancy Comello found Elvira suffering with severe abdominal pain and an enlarged abdomen/uterus after an emergency surgery several months prior. They prayed with Elvira and Dennis for a healing miracle since she had lost weight, couldn’t eat, and required additional medical care but had no medical insurance or means to pay. Upon their return home, Karen and Nancy sent out an urgent email and were amazed when within one week many past Edgewood nursing students and friends responded with $7200 to cover Elvira’s medical tests, treatments, and a successful surgery this past November. Praise God for His answered prayers of healing and provision for Elvira and Dennis and the testimony of God’s faithfulness to those who serve in His name.

Jambo our dear friends, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

I am sending this letter out on behalf of the New Life Band and the people of Tanzania! Please read it with open hearts as to how God wants to use you. Our family has a Christmas tradition and every year we watch the movie, “Its a Wonderful Life”. We just finished watching it and was compelled to send out this letter to all of our family and friends. If you haven’t watched this movie recently, I encourage you to do so. It just might change your heart to one with greater compassion and love for helping the people of Tanzania and New Life Band.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter…Because of Christ, Karen & Rick

Jambo (Hello in Swahili) Merry Christmas Tanzania …It is a Wonderful life…
Ambulance donated to the people of Tanzania

Hope this attached picture is encouraging. We are so thankful on behalf of the people of Tanzania and the New Life Band for the many donations of medical supplies (ultrasound machine, isolettes/incubators, radiant warmers for infants, exam tables and much more) from Meriter Hospital and Group Health, school supplies and shoes from Sun Prairie and Middleton High Schools, Toilets and sinks for the New Life Band High School and dorms from Benjamin Plumbing, and about 20 dorm mattress plus much more. Students at the New Life Band school have to share beds as there are not enough beds, it is 2 students to a bed,

Great News… The ambulance was released this past Friday Dec. 16th at 7 PM and James Kiphizi of the New Life Band drove it to Arusha, a long 300 miles and taking about 14 hours. There are only very few ambulances in the country of Tanzania. But now…They now have to raise $6000 for money they had to borrow from friends to release the ambulance and to release the 40 foot container. The 40 foot container is still being held at the port until they come up with the money. The money goes to port fee’s, storage and others processing charges. They asked me if anyone could help and they are so grateful for any and all support and help that you feel you can offer!! I told them that I would send an email out and plea on their behalf. My heart goes out to them as we have experienced firsthand through our living with them, serving with them in their schools, hospital and clinics the great needs that they do have. We have seen the need and felt their pain as we worked without the conveniences that we have so readily have here in the states. We here in the U.S. are truly blessed people and my desire is to share all that we can, our wisdom, knowledge, our abundance and excess, even out of our need as a sacrificial giving. God has blessed us and now we have the chance to bless others.

It reminds me of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Raising $6000 really isn’t impossible because with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!! All of the worlds wealth is actually God’s treasure house, and He gives so we can bless others. I told them that we would pray and walk in faith with them. This container has in it the ultrasound machine, 8 microscopes and science equipment for the school, about 20 dorm mattress for the NLB students Sound equipment for the NLB, computers, 2 rototillers, isolettes/incubators and radiant heat open beds for newborn babies, examine tables medical equipment and much more. So this container is valuable to the life and ministry of the New Life Band and the people of Tanzania. If the container is not paid for they run the risk of the contents being auctioned off by the government because they can’t pay the money.
Together we can make it a wonderful life for the people in Tanzania this year. It’s a Wonderful Life, in Tanzania this year 2012!! Because we have HOPE…In Jesus who provides for all of our needs.

This past fall (Sept 24 through Oct 27, 2011) a team of 23 people from the Madison(also Colorado and Indiana) areas served the people of Tanzania and gave unselfishly of themselves, and lives were changed. We also started a feeding program with Xango Meal Packs (a porridge where you combine a dry mix with boiling water. It is a concentrated meal providing carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins and minerals to undernourished children and adults and that is easily digested). We shipped 217 Xango Meal Packs with each pack able to serve 17, for a total of 3,689 individual servings. The Hope 2 Others team was able to serve at an orphanage at Mt. Meru, the New Life Band (NLB) School in the Village of Kisongo area where Maasai children gathered and the village of MtoWoMbu (means Mosquito River) where Nickson Mzigaba lives. The New Life Band plans to continue the meal program for the students at their school, until they run out. Right now with the staggering increase of food costs due to the severe drought this past year on the East Coast of Africa, the students get a piece of bread and tea for breakfast, ugali (a mixture of corn meal and water) for lunch, and rice and beans for dinner…everyday. At the NLB School we had a community eye clinic with a local Optometrist, Upendo Douglas Mmari from Tanzania(but is currently living in Minneapolis with her husband who is going to seminary). We were blessed with a donation of 500 prescription eye glasses furnished by the Sun Prairie Lions Club that we all carried in our suitcases. The team assisted Upendo with the running of the eye clinic and fitting the glasses. The team worked on the construction of stairs leading up to the second floor of the New Life Band School and spread gravel on the ground of the open air auditorium in preparation for the first graduation of the seniors from the NLB High School that we attended on October 1st, a really highlight of the trip. 5 nurses from the Madison area (4 were from Meriter Hospital and 3 of them from the NICU) worked in Arusha at a mother-baby clinic helping with laboring mothers, delivering babies, teaching techniques of New born resuscitation and Adult CPR, worked in a walk-in clinic and more. The ultrasound machine is a much need piece of medical equipment for pregnant mothers.

So please stand in the gap for the New Life Band as they ask us to pray in the needed money, “a financial miracle” is what James Kiphizi one of the NLB leaders said. Let’s bring them in a Christmas miracle. Please pass this email on to any and all of your friends and families that would have a heart to help them with their needs as they serve and bring the promise of the Christ Child and salvation to the youth, students and people of Tanzania.

The New Life Band will be coming back again this September 2012 for their 5th visit. They will be having concerts and performances in the area. Be watching for the dates and places to come. Karen is the coordinator and scheduler for the Wisconsin visit. They will also be in Minneapolis, Denver Colorado, and California areas this fall.
This will be a Blessed Christmas for the people of Tanzania that will be remembered for years to come. Thank you to the people of Wisconsin and the U.S. for all you do to serve and bring HOPE 2 Others around the world.

Tax-deductible donations can be made to:
Hope 2 Others
P.O. BOX 1006
Sun Prairie, WI 53590

If you have questions about how you can help, donate, learn more about the feeding program, support a student at the NLB School or support the work of Hope 2 Others please contact:
Karen or Rick Klemp
608-825-9557
karen@bringinghope2others.com
rick@bringinghope2others.com

Asanta sana (“Thank You very much” in Swahili) for sharing this heartfelt story, the needs and life of the people of Tanzania. They are truly grateful for anything that we can do in support of their great needs.

God’s blessings, Mama Karen & Baba Rick

Janeth Gabagambi, along with some of her American friends, are busy preparing a feast.

Gabagambi is originally from Tanzania but Friday she was in Karen Klemp’s kitchen preparing food that will eventually benefit people back home.

” God is using them to touch the hearts of people. Every single small gift, small or big you are donating it means a lot. It means a lot. ”

Gabagambi describes Tanzania as a beautiful place with lots of suffering.

In a little more than two months Klemp, along with members of her nonprofit group “Bringing Hope 2 Others,” will travel to Tanzania in hopes of alleviating some of that suffering.

Right now her garage is full of items they plan on donating. But in the drive way is where you’ll find the most important item: a retired ambulance.

Klemp says, ” We’re going to be loading this with a patient cart and these are all supplies that have been packed already for the event. ”

Klemp’s trip to Tanzania begins next week even though she won’t get on a plane until September.

The ambulance will take six to eight weeks to ship. Although the group is generous – everything has a price. And they still need $9,000 to get the ambulance to Tanzania.

The group is hosting a fundraiser tomorrow night. For more information look under newslinks on our webchannel.

Hope 2 Others, a local non-profit organization founded by Rick and Karen Klemp of Sun Prairie, is pioneering a new effort to raise money for the construction of a medical clinic in Kisongo, Tanzania.

The Hope 2 Others “Band-Aid Campaign” is open to any school, church, organization, business or individual, and all of the proceeds will go towards the goal of building the New Life Band Clinic next summer, and to raise awareness of the medical needs in Tanzania-East Africa and other developing countries.
People interested can purchase a Band-Aid Campaign kit with a donation, and construct a poster with the templates included in the kit.

“Children as well as adults can contribute as much as they feel they can,” Karen Klemp said. “The idea is we want to have the posters laminated and take them with us to Tanzania and decorate the walls of the clinic. Then the people there would know who the people are in Wisconsin that helped to make this clinic possible.”

Karen is an RN in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Meriter Hospital in Madison where she has worked for nearly 34 years. She co-leads students nurses enrolled in the Edgewood College School of Nursing Program for a three week experience to Guatemala where they do volunteer medical and health care, teach CPR/NRP (newborn resuscitation procedures) and birthing practices, nutrition, clean water projects and work in clinics and hospitals.

Karen has taught health classes, CPR and NRP to nurses, physicians, firemen and the lay public in Tanzania and Guatemala. Rick Klemp has 30 years of experience in construction, and has been involved in building homes in Mexico, three schools in Guatemala and the New Life Band School in Tanzania.

The New Life Band in Tanzania came to Sun Prairie in September 2009, when the Band-Aid Campaign first began. They plan to build a clinic to help counteract malaria, infectious diseases, including HIV and AIDS, and malnutrition.

By next summer, a 30-foot-by-44-foot metal building with a foundation will hopefully be constructed.

Klemp hopes to have enough funds available to ship two 20-foot containers to Tanzania – one that would transport medical and construction supplies, and the other container to house the ambulance the City of Sun Prairie donated to the New Life Band Clinic in October.

“We’ve raised about $3,000 total, and the total cost for everything – sending two containers and building the clinic and all the insides, the electrical, going there, the foundation – is about $100,000,” Karen said. “We have a ways to go but we’re believing it will work.”

Once the clinic in Tanzania is completed, Hope 2 Others plans to construct other medical clinics in other developing countries.

“There are several places in Africa that are in need,” Karen said. Tanzania is where Karen said Hope 2 Others is called to now, but she is open to other areas in need as money is made available. To assist with the costs involved, Karen said she is researching possible grant opportunities.

So far, Sun Prairie High School and other Sun Prairie schools, along with schools in Middleton, Verona, Madison, Cambridge and Milwaukee are signed up for the Band-Aid Campaign.

“All of the schools where the New Life Band performed [last fall] are participating,” Karen said.
It’s a completely optional and student driven fundraising opportunity for students to be involved in.

“I come in and talk to their student councils about the project, and the students decide if they want to participate,” Karen said. “It’s completely student driven.”

Hope 2 Others is also looking at the sustainability of the clinic, and trying to prepare a 5-year plan going into the future.
“The service at the clinic, people will pay as they can afford. That’s how they do it there,” Karen said. She added that the clinic would probably be open for a couple days a week at first.

“The other thing we were thinking of is the ambulance could serve as a mobile clinic,” Karen said. “People come from really far away and people walk a couple days to get there. This clinic is 12 miles outside the major city of Arusha and there are no other clinics for miles, so if they determine that there are a lot of people coming from a certain area and it’s taking days for them to get there, they could use the ambulance to go to that place for a day or two and have a mobile clinic to better serve the people.”

Another long-term project of the New Life Band and Hope 2 Others is to dig their own well for the clinic and school site, which would be installed after the clinic is completed.

“Right now they have water piped in from another source and that could stop at any time,” Karen said. The well would also serve the entire village of Kisongo, which has a similar population size to Sun Prairie.

“Their [the New Life Band] heart is to serve their people and I believe the city of Sun Prairie has a huge heart because they have been over the top when it comes to serving this community in Tanzania,” Karen said. “They’ve reached out to the people in Tanzania through the New Life Band and serving them in the areas of health and education.”

Haiti Baby Formula Blitz!!!

We need to Bring Hope 2 these mothers and their baby’s!!

In follow-up from the March 4th article “County-wide Relief Train ships supplies to Haiti”, is gaining momentum. The first (we believe of many) container left Sun Prairie for St. Marc, Haiti, Saturday, Feb. 27th and is scheduled to be there when the Madison team arrives. The “Relief Train” is now running full steam ahead with a second container underway for a special heart-felt need, as we respond to the desperate cry of mothers and their babies who are suffering and starving from dehydration and malnutrition. In a meeting with Buy the government and UN leaders this past week, YWAM Haiti learned that baby formula is an urgent and critical need right now!! Mothers are not lactating do to the shock from the devastating earth quake, dehydration and malnutrition, and as a result these despairing mothers and their babies are suffering and starving. In the coming weeks we will be quickly collecting as much baby formula, 8 ounce baby bottles with standard nipples, and bottle brushes to help meet the needs of these starving babies. Rick and Karen Klemp, founders of “Hope 2 Others” non-profit organization, have been in partnership with the starting and leadership of the “Relief Train”, in an effort to bring relief to the earthquake struck country of Haiti. As Karen found out about the incredible and horrific state of these suffering babies and their mothers, she immediately went into action to help bring aid to for this desperate situation. Karen is a RN in the NICU-Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Meriter Hospital and works with the premature and sick newborns. At work Karen is frantically collecting baby bottles, and donated items to help these babies in Haiti, as Karen, Rick and their daughter Kaitlyn, leave in less than 2 weeks on a mission trip to Haiti. The staff she works with has rallied with her in this effort, and is helping to collect all they are able. Karen is also working on efforts to help with a re-lactation program for the mothers to help in reestablishing their breast milk supply with the support of the Lactation Consultant RN’s she works with in the NICU as well as advise from the NICU’s Nutritionist. Karen is praying that her 5 short days of work will touch the lives of many mothers and babies, and bring them a new hope and miracles that only God can do. Karen believes that she and the team are messengers sent by God to do His work. We just want to be the hands and feet of Jesus. While we work and treat, God will do the healing of the hearts and bodies of the Haitian people. We just need to be obedient. We all (the entire team of 33 people) have special gifts and talents, and look forward to serving these beautiful people of Haiti that we have not yet even met, but whom we already love. What a blessed way to serve God and His people during this Holy Week of Easter. With a humble heart and yet great anticipation, we will be expecting miracles and God’s resurrection power for the people of Haiti.

The team of 33 people from the Madison area is being lead by YWAM-Madison director Michael Leeson. The team will be going to 2 areas, one to St. Marc where the Hospital-medical clinic is located. They will also be distributing supplies, putting up Hoop-housing, feeding and cooking for the thousands of refugees at the YWAM-Haiti base, building relationships and praying with the people. The second part of the group will be working at an orphanage in Jacmel and rebuilding a new orphanage, as well as working with the children. All of the 33 member team will be bring tents, mats and cots for sleeping, and then plan to leave them for the Haitians.

Karen believes that our goal is wisely stated in the words of Mother Teresa; “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one. It is not the magnitude of our actions buy the amount of love that is put into them that matters.” And to pare-phrase the words of Mother Teresa, Karen believes, “If you can’t bring hope to a hundred people, then Bring Hope 2 just one. It is not how big we are, but the compassion and love that we deposit into the life of another.”

We thank these local businesses for generously donating space for being the Drop off locations for the much needed Infant formula, bottles with nipples and bottle brushes.

The Drop off Locations here in Sun Prairie is at these sites:
Bean’s N Cream – 345 Cannery
Sentry Grocery Store – 1052 W. Main
Copps Grocery Store, West Side – 2538 Ironwood Dr.
Copps Grocery Store, East Side – 640 E. Main St.

When the 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, hundreds of thousands of people donated their time and money to various relief efforts. Now, almost two months later, the drive to help those affected by the quake as not slowed down.

An initiative of friends, churches and organizations in Dane County have joined together to continue relief efforts, organizing the Haiti Relief Train. The Haiti Relief Train’s mission is to send general and medical supplies to Youth With A Mission in Haiti (YWAM-Haiti), outside of Port-au-Prince in the town of Saint Marc.

St. Marc did not receive a lot of damage from the quake, but since then has seen a steady stream of refugees. National director of YWAM-Haiti Terry Snow has been working with local pastors and the Haitian government to handle the 6,000-8,000 refugees. YWAM-Madison and the Haiti Relief Train are assisting in any way they can to provide materials and volunteers to assist YWAM-Haiti.

Sun Prairie residents Rick and Karen Klemp, known for the work in Guatemala and Tanzania with their non-profit organization Hope 2 Others, have taken a leadership role in this new project.

“Actually when the crisis in Haiti happened, Rick and I were wanting to somehow help, but we weren’t sure what we could,” Karen Klemp said. “We have the Tanzania project going, so we didn’t know where to go, and just prayed about it and a friend of ours came up and said you guys know a lot about sending containers and shipping, and there’s a group of us that has been wanting to get together and we thought you guys could help us. So it was a real answer to where we could serve and help the people of Haiti.”

The churches and ministries currently involved include Youth With A Mission – Madison, New Crossing Church in Sun Prairie, Living Water Church in Sun Prairie, Mad City Church in Madison, Damascus Road Church in Madison, Lake City Church in Madison, High Point Church in Madison, Faith Community Bible Church in Madison, Hope 2 Others Ministry in Sun Prairie, River Hills Church in Sauk City, New Life Assembly of God in Janesville, and Metro Believers Church in Madison.
On Feb. 27, the Haiti Relief Train sent their first container packed with medical and general supplies to Haiti. The container is a 20-foot container, and will be used to assist a refugee camp and orphanage in St. Marc.

The Klemps collected all the donated items – which included food, general hygiene, and medical supplies – and stored them in a warehouse at The Lighthouse in Sun Prairie and their own home until Feb. 27 when the container arrived.
Students from Sun Prairie High School assisted the Klemps and other members of Haiti Relief Train with the packing of the container.
The Lighthouse donated a warehouse for storage and organization—staging the container out of it.
Rick and Karen are hoping to go to Haiti at the end of March with YWAM – Madison to help where they can.

“They need a lot of help with the construction of the hospital and the orphanage,” Karen said. With their experiences setting up clinics in Guatemala and Tanzania, Rick would be able to assist in the construction project, and Karen would use her background as a nurse to assist at the clinic, providing care.

Those interested in going to Haiti to help hands-on should e-mail relief@ywamhaiti.org. Michael Leeson of YWAM-Madison and New Crossing Church are planning a trip during late March. For more information, visit www.relieftrain.org.

“It’s a really neat thing because it’s so inclusive of many people in Dane County, and it’s open to anyone outside of the county too. If people want to donate or do something, collectively we have a lot and the more people the better,” Karen said. “A lot of people want to help but don’t know how they can help – like we were before this all came about – so we want to be able to put it out there.”

Haiti Relief Train is now collecting more items for a second container to be shipped to St. Marc.

The first container held 2,074 lbs. of food, including 796 lbs. of rice, 247 lbs. of beans, and 36 lbs. of oatmeal; 250 lbs. of baby formula, the result of a two-day “Baby Formula Blitz”; 99 lbs. of personal care items, such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.; 151 lbs. of cleaning soap, laundry soap, bleach and hand sanitizer; 1,949 lbs. of clothing and 172 lbs. of shoes; 844 lbs of bedding donated from Best Western West Towne Suites; 585 lbs. of medical supplies, including two examination tables, a heart rate monitor, a baby incubator and numerous exam lights and IV poles; a generator; over 100 lbs. of tarps and tents; and 114 lbs. of work lights, cords, duct tape and nails.

Overall, there were 20 pallets with 18 (4x4x4) cubes with a total weight of over 6,840 lbs. of relief supplies.
For donation information, visit www.relieftrain.org. There is are lists of items needed, and contact information for how and where to send the donations.

“It’s just been really exciting to work with so many organizations, especially when you’re looking at having to do this in a short amount of time,” Karen said. “Normally mission work takes months of planning. The more people you have to do something, the more energy, the more resources, the more help you can get to accomplish what’s needed, especially in emergency situations.”
